First of all, I am so sorry... I understand you more than you know.
My suggestion is to think of something she really likes the most, maybe how she adores your children... and see if she is able to receive you for a short while and up date on how your children are doing.
Remind her how much your children have appreciate her gifts and how her thoughtfulness toward you means so much to you.
Then, allow whatever reflection of feeling she gives back to you to hold it as a treasure in your heart that your visit of appreciation for her, no matter how small, made a difference in her life.

the best thing you can do for someone who is suffering from cancer is to allow them to feel whatever emotions they are experiencing about it without guilt. just let her know your thoughts are with her and tell her to let you know if there is anything you can do for her, including listening.

I can count the times I have been in your situation on one hand, with neighbors dying from cancer and I also lost my Father and his brothers from cancer. The simple answer is to explain how you feel about the situation and ask her if their is anything you can do to help. I can recall my neighbor talking about going to the cinema to see ET, she was in the later stages of cancer and we chatted, got all excited about this new film release and I promised I would take her when it came out. She died two days before the film was shown at the local cinema, so I went alone out of respect for her. Now when ET is shown on the TV and it is often, I think about my neighbor.
