Statistically, does getting cancer decrease the risk of getting a different type of cancer (not related to the previous cancer)?

Recently a neighbour died from cancer. Although I visited this person, I could not tell. A relative said that the doctor found fluid on his lungs and could do nothing about it.What are some of the common and not so common signs of cancer whether in male or female?

How long does it take to recuperate from a surgery that is supposed to eliminate colon cancer?

My mother, who is 61, has metastatic renal cell cancer and has been put on a treatment regimen which requires her to receive intravenous Avastin once every two weeks and have Roferon-A shots three times a week. She has since suffered such side effects as tiredness, lethargy, muscle aches, gum and mouth inflammation, chills, fever and, recently, loss of appetite. Is there anything she could use, eat or drink to ease the side effects?

Female, 62 years, on Synthroid for 20+ years after thyroid stopped functioning. Recent ultrasound shows two solid nodules (under 2 cm, one in each lobe) and a 3rd nodule “in the upper pole.” Thyroglobulin blood test abnormal. Hoarse voice. Had thyroid scan today. Internist felt growth 3 wks ago which prompted ultrasound. Internist suggests biopsies next at area diagnostic center. Earliest date available Oct. 10. Is this good advice or should I seek endocrinologist exam now? Am a 6 year uterine cancer survivor at an excellent, regional cancer center, which does very little with thyroid cancer. What are the top centers for thyroid cancer? What would you recommend doing in my situation?
